Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Safe Landings. DESCRIPTION: The Royal Aircraft Establishment at Farnborough has come up with two new inventions that will help save life in the event of an aircraft having to make an emergency landing. SHOTLIST: SV pan with aircraft down runway, it starts to break up & it disintegrates at end of runway. GV looking down runway in foreground, the foam is laid, man walks up to foam. SV man inspects foam. CU ditto, breaking foam in hand pan at 51’ to layer of foam on runway. SCU man puts his foot on foam. GV looking down runway in foreground foam layer, in background Comet aircraft. LV fire engines at the ready. SV aircraft taxies fast into foam, it finally stops. SBV Comet in foam layer. SV leg of undercart in foam. SV nose of Comet pan down to nose wheel in foam. SV 2 men standing on foam taking photographs. GV pan with aircraft as it goes through foam layer and stops, pan to tail. GBV aircraft in foam. CU petrol being lit in tin can. SV tower, untreated kerosene is dropped from top of tower onto igniters, result is fire. CU fire zoom out to SV. CU cameramen. SV man lighting igniters. SV top of tower treated kerosene is dropped but no fire, pan down tower to igniters. SV rocket propelled vehicle is launched & it travels down railway and it releases untreated kerosene onto igniter, result fire, pan up with smoke. SV man fuels up rocket propelled vehicle. CU ditto with treated fuel. LV rocket propelled vehicle is launched, its fuel is fired over the igniter, result is no fire. LV plane approaching end of runway, it breaks up fuselage head towards camera.
