- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Gateway to India in Colour. DESCRIPTION: The Gateway of India in Bombay commemorates the visit of King George V in 1911. When Her Majesty visited Bombay, one of her first engagements was here: a meeting with the Master Mariners of India. From the Master Mariners, the Queen accepted an address, which was placed in a model of a telescope, carved from timber of the Dufferin. For Prince Philip, a wooden shield of the crest of the Company of Master Mariners of India. Their next engagement was a visit to the Atomic Energy Establishment at Trombay. They travelled by launch, an attractive journey, providing a good view of typical Indian coastal trading ships. Later, the Prince visited the Dufferin by himself. After being received on board by the Captain Superintendent, His Royal Highness inspected the ship and her company. Dufferin is a training ship, in which most of India’s Master Mariners began their training. After lunch on board, the Prince took the salute at the cadets’ ceremonial march past. SHOTLIST: Key scene.
