- Summary
- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Calcutta Welcomes the Queen Colour. DESCRIPTION: Calcutta is a city of millions, and, long before the royal visit, masses of people were giving the police a busy time, as they crowded the streets. Meanwhile, a trip aboard a river-steamer was Her Majesty’s last engagement in East Pakistan. The Queen and Prince Philip had driven out from Dacca to the Adamjee jute mills, and were returning this way. The great Steelworks at Durgapur was first on the list of engagements for the return to India. When Her Majesty came to be shown over the plant, she saw one of Britain’s largest overseas contracts. It’s not yet completed, but it’s already in operation. British technical supervision, together with India technicians and workers co-operated in building it. From Durgapur to Calcutta, and a multitudinous welcome from the people of the city. The Queen was accompanied by Miss Naidu (Governor of West Bengal) on this memorable drive. SHOTLIST: Key scene.
