Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Polaris on Target. DESCRIPTION: The USS George Washington, America’s first nuclear powered missile launching submarine, made history: the first launching of a ballistic missile from a submarine under water. The first Polaris was fired 30 miles off the Florida Coast, and it reached the target area twelve hundred miles away. It took 15 minutes to reach it, and was accurate all the way. Then, number two went up, described by official observers as a little better than the first - and the first was excellent. SHOTLIST: Aerial shot of submarine (George Washington). MCU man at control panel. CU man tapping morse key. CU man at control panel. Sea through anchor port. Submarine submerged. Periscope above water. Rocket fired. Officer checks position.
