- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Katanga Battle. DESCRIPTION: Retaliation in Katanga after Congolese mutineers had opened fire on Belgian troops. The rebels were hiding out in Katanga which had announced its independence from the rest of the Congo. 4 days were spent trying to persuade the Congolese to give up their arms. They refused and were rounded up in the bloodiest battle since the Congo mutiny began. The United Nations have already sent some 9,000 troops to the Congo to act as a Police Force.
