Summary

MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: The State Visit of the President of France. DESCRIPTION: The scene was Victoria Station, and, making her first official public appearance since the birth of Prince Andrew, Her Majesty was there to welcome her guests from France. President de Gaulle arrived on a State visit and received the warmest of welcomes from the Queen. Then, Prince Philip and other members of the family exchanged greetings with the President and Madame de Gaulle. Princess Margaret was there, so were the Duke of Gloucester, and Princess Alexandra. For a few moments, they talked on the platform, before the formal welcome from the distinguished reception party: Field Marshal Lord Alexander (Lord Lieutenant of London), the Prime Minister, and Mr Butler (Home Secretary). The President then inspected the Guard of Honour, mounted by the First Battalion, Coldstream Guards. The programme was very full, starting with a State Banquet at Buckingham Palace that night. After the banquet, in honour of Her Majesty’s guests, a display of fireworks had been planned in St James’s Park. SHOTLIST: GV Victoria Station. MS Queen, Prince Philip and Princess Margaret.
