- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: HMS Hermes. DESCRIPTION: Seen here is Britain’s latest Carrier, HMS Hermes, and she wears the Red Ensign, for she’s not yet a ship of the Royal Navy. With Naval Officers on the bridge is Trails Master, Captain Campbell, soon to hand over to Captain Tibbits RN. Now, the take over at sea, with Captain Tibbits and the builders’ representative signing transfer papers. Then, the ceremonial hauling down of the Red Ensign, and the hoisting of the White. This twenty million pound ship is possibly Britain’s last Aircraft Carrier. Work on the building of Hermes stopped at the end of the war, and for years, she lay at Barrow-in-Furness.
