Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Wimbledon Opens. DESCRIPTION: It began with bright, hot sunshine and keen competition. An international galaxy of players included Russians and Yugoslavs, and Kurt Nielsen of Denmark, twice a Wimbledon finalist. The Championships were first held over 80 years ago. We recall the leisurely tennis of long ago when the Camden Lawn Tennis Club in London celebrated their 75th anniversary. In those days, etiquette was more important than the game. How different today, with the tense exhausting drama of top-line tennis. The Duchess of Kent saw Neale Fraser of Australia beat Pierre Damon of France in the opening centre court encounter. Another personality was Olmedo of the United States, the new Wimbledon favourite. SHOTLIST: GV crowds (key). GV crowds. CU girls (3). Pan same. CU same (2). MS players arrive. MS Yugoslav players.
