Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: The Prince in the Islands. DESCRIPTION: This was the first royal visit in the history of the Solomon Islands Protectorate. Britannia dropped anchor off Gizo Island after a nine-day voyage from Hong Kong. Prince Philip had enjoyed the crossing the Equator ceremonies and was invested with the Order of the Penguin. There was also a special award for Admiral of the Fleet, Lord Fraser of North Cape. The Prince spent five days in the Solomons. Coming ashore at Honiara (capital of the Protectorate), he was with Sir John Gutch, the High Commissioner for the Western Pacific, and inspected the Police Guard of Honour.
