MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: The Budget. DESCRIPTION: Seen here is the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr Heathcoat Amory, at work in his office on his budget proposals - before leaving for the House of Commons. The Chancellor proposes to reduce the three higher rates of Purchase Tax by one sixth. And twopence a pint off beer. That will be also a popular move and welcomed by everybody. Post-War Credits to be repaid two years sooner, and tax-free interest to be paid from next October. Finally, income-tax. Nine pence off the standard rate and sixpence off the lower rates.
