- Summary
- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Helicopters to the Rescue. DESCRIPTION: The 2,600 ton Transontario from Hamburg was trapped in the ice in the middle of Montreal Harbour. After travelling only two miles in ten days, she was short of fuel, but a helicopter came to the rescue, bringing two drums of oil at a time. But the ship had got to get out, so ice-breakers cleared a channel for the Transontario. Helicopters to the rescue again! This time, it was to help the crew of the tanker African Queen. She’d broken in half on a sand bar off the coast of Maryland. Nine of them took part, flying a ferry service from ship to shore and carrying the crew to safety.
