- Summary
- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Archie Moore - Amazing Win. DESCRIPTION: Archie Moore, the coloured light-heavyweight world champion, got a real surprise from Yvonne Durelle, in the first round of their title-fight in Montreal. Durelle, 29-year-old French Canadian fisherman, intended to finish off the old champ, whose age is reported as anywhere between 43 and 49. Archie went down again and the crowd thought this surely is the end of a great career. Somehow, however, the old champ kept on keeping on. In round nine, it was Moore who put Durelle on the canvas. The challenger was only saved by the bell. By round eleven, Durelle was in real trouble: and Archie was now within reach of scoring a record of 127 KO’s. The referee, former champ Jack Sharkey, counted him out. Victory to the veteran, the oldest fighting champion in boxing history. SHOTLIST: MS Archie Moore gets into ring (key). GV fight commences.
