Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Hendon Aerodrome Closes. DESCRIPTION: Hendon Aerodrome - London’s oldest flying field has closed down. It has been an RAF station for over forty years. The runways are all too short for most modern high-speed aircraft. SHOTLIST: Officers including the C-in-C Transport Command Sir Andrew McKee KCB, DSO, DFC, AFC, and the Station Commander Group Captain PW Stansfield. CBE, DFC, watch the last aircraft. They are standing outside the Officers Mess built in 1917. A 1917 Sopwith Camel is wheeled out of hangar to stand beside a modern Devon VIP aircraft. In the hangar is a Farman bi-plane of 1913. Interior of the original Graham White Hangar. Take off impression standing beside F/O Wakeford who piloted one of the last aircraft, an Anson, to take off from Hendon. A Devon flies low over the airfield as last salute. The last Devon to take off. The crew get aboard, they are Flight Lieutenant Evans and Flight Sergeant Ford. As they take off the Station CO salutes the last fly past. The Hangar doors are closed.
