Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Withdrawal Completed. DESCRIPTION: The final paragraph of the Port Said story featured the return of British civilian technicians from Egyptian internment, safe and sound, on their way home with the few remaining troops who’ve now completed their withdrawal. Meanwhile members of the UN Emergency Force have been taking a look at the one-time Mecca of the tourist. One immediate task is to ensure the safety of the British salvage fleet, whose crews are remaining behind to help clear the Canal of Nasser’s blockships. SHOTLIST: British civilians arrive from internment aboard train. General Sir Hugh Stockwell leaves aboard craft. Egyptians trying to knock down the De Lesseps statue with pick axes etc. Indian UN troops visit the Sphinx. UN troops board British ships who are helping to clear the Canal.
