Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Duke of Edinburgh in New Guinea. DESCRIPTION: At Port Moresby, the Duke himself brought Britannia in, and berthed her alongside. On going ashore he was received by Field Marshal, Sir William Slim, Governor General of Australia. The island people gave the royal visitor a demonstration of just how New Guinea pays honour to a great chief. During his tour the Duke saw timber men at work in a pine forest at Bulolo. The principal form of welcome was tribal dancing. A small boy offered a present of a model canoe. After New Guinea the Duke called at other palm-fringed islands, on his way to Australia.
