- Summary
- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: The First Landings. DESCRIPTION: In Cyprus, accent was on the French preparations for sea-borne landings in Egypt. Highly successful attacks on Egyptian airfields had already taken place, ships and troops then awaited orders to follow up airborne landings. Pictures were taken as the sea-borne attack was mounted. The ships and their escorts were concentrated, the troops and their equipment on board. And then they waited for zero hour to strike. Flying in a British transport aircraft, one of the Movietone’s cameramen filmed exclusive pictures of paratroops about to make the first landings. SHOTLIST: Ships preparing to leave Cyprus with arms and men aboard them. Men embarking for Cyprus. Soldiers drinking. Ships and escorts. GV ships leaving Cyprus port. Plane flying with light (transport plane). Interior of plane. Preparations for drop. Door being removed. Men being pushed out one by one. Aerial shot of broken bridge and oil drum markers.
