- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Comet First Passenger Service. DESCRIPTION: A copy of Movietone’s latest newsreel was on board the Comet, when it made the World’s first regular jet-liner air service. Leaving London Airport for Johannesburg, the Comet’s flying time for the 6,724 miles was 18 hours 40 minutes. At Jo’burg, the film of its arrival was put back on board for the return journey to London. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. CU jet engines. MS Comet at London Airport. Luggage being loaded on. Passengers boarding. BM Newsreel being taken aboard. Engines start up all background quivering. Comet taxies. Into camera Comet takes off. Flying over the clouds. Jo’burg - passengers disembark. BM Newsreel being taken out of packet & other pictures of arrival being put into packet. Plane leaves Jo’burg, cloud shot, landing at LAP, passengers off. BM Newsreel being off loaded & rushed to car which drives away. Sir Miles Thomas is one of the passengers. Mr Abrahams is person unpacking reel.
