- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: King of Norway’s Visit. DESCRIPTION: The Duke of Gloucester, deputising for His Majesty, met King Haakon of Norway when he arrived at Hay’s Wharf in the royal yacht ‘Norge’. They returned in the royal barge to Westminster pier, where the King was welcomed by the Queen and Princesses. King Haakon’s grand daughter, Princess Astrid of Norway (who is studying at Oxford) also met him there and after inspection of the Guard of Honour of the Embankment, the drive to Buckingham Palace. The popularity of his visit was fully confirmed by Londoners lining the route of the Royal procession. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. GV Tower Bridge. GV Tower Bridge with Norge coming through. Several shots of Norge coming into Pool of London & turning downstream. Leaving Westminster Pier, Duke of Gloucester embarks, arrival alongside Norge. King Haakon & Duke of Gloucester boarding Royal Barge. Royal Barge coming up river, Festival site in background, Skylon can be seen. Queen, Princesses & Duchess of Kent await arrival. Arrival of barge at Westminster Pier. King Haakon jumps ashore, kissing Queen, Princess Elizabeth, who curtsies. Shakes hands with Princess Margaret who curtsies. Kisses Princess Astrid, his grand-daughter. Shakes hands with Duchess of Kent, & kisses her. Walks off pontoon. On Embankment, King Haakon & Duke of Gloucester takes salute. Cut-ins Royal Guard of Honour. In open landau King Haakon drives away, various shots of King during drive, through Horse Guards parade, turning into Mall. Into camera, royal procession down Mall, swinging round QV Memorial, out of camera, into palace to finish.
