Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Sheffield Peace Flop. DESCRIPTION: Sheffield was chosen for the holding of the so-called World Peace Congress. Britain exercised her right to refuse admittance to undesirable guests; all the same, a number of delegates did arrive - only to discover that they’d soon be moving to Warsaw. SHOTLIST: KS. Group of reporters on steps of City Hall. Various shots street scenes in Sheffield. GV City Hall pan to tents nearby. Sign in several languages reading "Restaurant". Pan of Workhouse Lane where tents are pitched. Delegates alight from coach, elevated GV crowds on steps of Hall. MS Red Dean & Bulgarian church leader. Red Dean - SCU speaking of "peace". Picasso with others on steps. SCU Australian delegate being interviewed, saying "Attlee is a warmonger". Interior of City Hall, back-sheet in many languages. SCU Picasso speaking in French. SCU Pudovkin sends his greeting to the "British peace loving etc". SCU Nan Green speaking "The Congress will go on". Workmen throwing sheets of corrugated iron in heap.
