MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Pearl Diver Wins the Derby. DESCRIPTION: Again Gordon Richards was on the wrong horse, although riding Tudor Minstrel the hottest favourite for years; MOVIETONE shows you GREAT 1947 in detail. The race was won by the French horse Pearl Diver. SHOTLIST: CUT STORY: KS Elevated GV of racecourse, clouds in background (very good). Folomain with silhouette of winning post as background. Elevated shot of crowds in front of grandstand panning to course. Elevated (Paul Wyand) shot of The Hill and Grandstand, with cloud effects in background (very good). MS crowds, tents etc., it is raining. MS crowds in the rain. CU race card. Quick cut-ins of tipsters, stall holders, vendors etc. also Prince Monolulu. SCU selling jellied eels. CU woman selling lemonade. CU tipster dressed as a jockey, all the vendors etc. are shot in sound. Elevated shot of small crowd in rain. MS & elevated shots of bookies taking bets. Elevated shot crowds in front of grandstand (Gray). Elevated shot of grandstand and The Hill (Wyand). Elevated shot of Royal cars along course. Elevated shot of Royal car along course. SLS arrival of Royal car. SCU King alighting and shaking hands with Lord Rosebery. Ditto Queen Elizabeth. Elevated shot Royal party walking from car, among whom are the King, Queen, Princess Elizabeth, Princess Alice, Earl of Athlone and Lord Rosebery. MS Princess Elizabeth smiling with Princess Alice. GV grandstand, showing three tiers, and panning to course (very good). MS King in Royal Box leaning on rails (without hat on). MS of horses parading as follows:- No 2 Bhishma, Sayajirao, No 5 Cadir, No 6 Richard the Third, No 8 Tudor Minstrel, No 9 Castle Street, Blue Coral, Royal Family lean on rail watching parade, No 11 Migoli, Saravan, No 13 Grand Weather, No 14 Tite Street, No 15 Merry Quip, No 16 Firemaster, Parisien, No 18 Pearl Diver, panning from each horse. Elevated shot of grandstand with the Hill in fore. MS horses just before the start. MS King, Queen, Princess Elizabeth and Duke of Gloucester all looking through field glasses (binoculars). The start, out of camera, Tudor Minstrel gets away badly, turning sideways. Horses running out of camera just after start. Elevated Tudor Minstrel leads, begins to drop back to 2nd and 4th place. Elevated shots of horses along back stretch, approach Tattenham Corner, and round same, Pearl Diver coming up. Elevated swing shot from backstretch to coming up the straight. LS horses come up straight to finishing post. Slow motion pan of horses up straight, camera pans with Pearl Diver, in most graceful movement passing winning post. MS ordinary speed - Princess Elizabeth in Royal Box alone, looks at race card. MS lead in, into camera. Pan to Bridgeland Pearl Diver’s jockey SCU. Elevated GV winner being led in. MS Jockey unsaddling winner. MS Princess Elizabeth looks at race card. CU head of Pearl Diver. Gordon Richards walks along grass track looking most disappointed. Also in story GVs of Downs packed with crowds and all types of vehicles.
