MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: 14th Army’s Triumph. DESCRIPTION: The Fourteenth Army’s drive to Burma’s second city, Mandalay, has been a magnificent feat of arms. They found Burmese villagers who had suffered greatly in the hands of the Japanese. Lord Louis Mountbatten recently broadcast to his troops and described the sort of show they have been putting on for the "benefit" of the Japs. SHOTLIST: Cut story - GS of General Lee tanks past pagodas. Lees knock down trees en route, British troops march along few & far between, GV of pagodas. Burmese people on wagons make their way through our lines, various shots. Convoy of wagons out of camera. In a village, Burmese men show marks of the tortures they have suffered under the Japs. An officer speaks (silent) to the Burmese, pan of Burmese - impassive. British troops on carts en route to Mandalay. Entertained by Burmese women dancers, various shots, followed by Burmese style of boxing, slap, kick, scratch etc. Then Indian Havildar of Punjab, accepts challenge from Burmese village champ, the Indian won. After which came a display of "Chonlin" (ball control). (Library - CUs of Lord Louis Mountbatten also shaking hands with somebody on arrival in Far East.) Lord Louis speaks over scenes of British troops advancing towards Mandalay, General Lees, & various shots of advance. (Lord Louis speech was on the air last Tuesday night.) Also few shots of wounded being evacuated. Aerial shots of Thunderbolts dive bombing on Japs positions. One shot shows an eagle (or large bird) flying among Thunderbolts.
