Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Collapse of the Bridge. DESCRIPTION: The bridge at Remagen, so useful in the crossing of the Rhine, has collapsed. Despite the repair work carried out by the Americans enemy shelling is presumed to have weakened the bridge. Men working on it at the time of the collapse were thrown or jumped into the river and many rescues had to be made. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. Sherman tank across bridge. Various shots of US Engineers working on roadway & structural work of the bridge. Burning girders, shots of girders with shell-holes through same. GV of Remagen bridge mix to collapsed bridge. US engineers in the Rhine cling to bridgework, hauled out of river, others extricated from twisted girders, lowered on stretchers to ground. In the river men cling to debris, Yanks strips to the waist & swim out to their assistance. Men dragged ashore by ropes. On bank, medics attend wounded, also many ambulances await wounded. In background wrecked bridge.
