MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Athens Celebrates Liberation. DESCRIPTION: The liberation of Greece has been continuing at a smooth and rapid place. The force landed at Piraeus, the port near Athens, the Germans having already evacuated. The British tommies were welcomed in the streets of the Greek capital with great rejoicing. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS Destroyers line ahead, various shots of warships, en route to Piraeus. CU of several members of crew on deck at their posts. GV of Ensign flying at masthead. CU Signalling with lamp. Several shots of destroyers in fore with sun rising in background. ships enter Piraeus harbour, several Greeks on quay. British troops jump ashore. Elevated shot of British troops marching off quay. AFU - Elevated shot of Athens, streets beflagged, Greeks cheering, waving etc. carpets laid in roadways, mechanised units drive over same. Armoured cars through streets. Greeks wave various banners about, also portrait of Churchill. British troops march through streets. Cut-ins of crowds cheering etc. AFU - Several British "Tommies" shouldered & carried through streets. Elevated shot of Athens, Greek girl buys newspaper for two billion Drachma, shots of notes, also buying bread. Over camera shot of Dakotas passing over carrying supplies. At Piraeus, Greek PM (Mr Papandreou) arrives with Lt General Scoby. CU of both. CU types of Guard of Honour, formed by Greek Partisans; another Guard of Honour formed by Royal Marines, also Armoured Brigade unit. Greek PM inspects. Elevated shot of Constitution Square in Athens, with crowds celebrating; PM lays wreath on Unknown Warriors Tomb. LS of Acropolis, GV of girls carrying Greek flag in procession from Acropolis GS of Greek PM hoisting Greek flag to masthead, to finish on CU Greek flag.
