Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Pantelleria Surrenders. DESCRIPTION: The Infantry Force approached the island under cover from the guns of warships. Once they had landed prisoners began to give themselves up and were glad to do so. The capture of Pantelleria means the route through the Mediterranean can be opened up again. SHOTLIST: Cut story - MS of Coningham and Sergeant Pilot Cohen (injured nose). MS Coningham, shakes with Cohen. LS of landing craft at sea, destroyers escorting, Pantelleria in background. LS Fortresses over camera in formation. LS of island, shells & bombs bursting on same. GS island enveloped in smoke. British troops march into camera amid ruins. Bren Carriers disembarking from TLC. More shots troops marching. Pan of ruins. Oil dump burning and another small fire. AFU Copyright - Elevated shot of prisoners marching through valley, leader waving large white flag. Italians and civilians & troops over ruins, all waving something white. Italians read proclamation. Italians receive food. Groups. AFU - Bulldozer clears away debris. Few stragglers surrender into camera. British troops climb over ruins. Large group of Italian soldiers & civilians with one escort seated, white flag to fore. GS of Union Jack being hoisted. AFU - Italians give ‘V’ sign.
