MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: The Derby 1943. DESCRIPTION: The Derby at Newmarket was well attended but lack of petrol meant the bicycle was the most favoured means of transport. The race was won by "Straight Deal" from "Umiddad" and "Nasrullah". SHOTLIST: Cut story - Various shots of crowds making their way to racecourse, traffic mostly US army vehicles, including Jeeps, tens of bikes, hundreds of people walking, into camera, also ponies & traps. At racecourse, bike park. SV shot of crowds in stand. GS of paddock, horses parading round. MS of Straight Deal, Umiddad, & Nasrullah. Gordon Richards on Nasrullah. "Way In" into camera out of paddock. Down track to starting post, start, & pan with horses as they swing, LS of horses nearing straight coming up straight, & finish. D Paget leads in Straight Deal ridden by Tommy Carey. Carey dismounts, & GS of winner & owner. D Paget being congratulated & to finish shot of bicycle park again, with people trying to find their bikes.
