Summary
NoS Summary - Showgirls collaborate with the Royal Air Force in a film about safety on holiday beaches.
Researcher Comments
Commentary: Don’t assume those girls are bathing in the sun - you know our British climate. In fact, it’s goose-pimple weather and they’re cold. They’re only...making a beach-safety film. We’ve got girls from London’s Windmill Theatre here at Worthing, playing the first dramatic roles of their lives - and watch it, watch it - the water’s cold! They’re making a film for Worthing Council, showing how safe it is to swim from here - and this girl is supposed to be the one who gets into some sort of difficulties. But it’s hard to stop these girls from - enjoying life. Now look - please be serious. You’re supposed to be drowning and the Royal Air Force are ready to rescue you. You’re not in the dancing line now - you must look desperate. Dip your head under water and - that’s it , now you look the part. Cold, isn’t it? Now we’re ready to be rescued! What a situation this is - the Royal Air Force collaborating with these showgirls to show us the safety limits that exist on our holiday beaches. It’s a pleasure and a thrill for Pathe Pictorial for once to be filming a film. You get the hang [of it?] - you’ve always got the RAF to help you, whether you’re a show-girl or not. That’s what this film of theirs is trying to illustrate.

The following memo from Pathe Pictorial Editor Douglas Warth addressed to Miss Lee Langley, the Publicity Manager at Warner-Pathe, relates to issue 401: "Pathe Pictorial No 401, previously circulated to you, and consisting of the stories "HELICOPTER RESCUE" and "ABC MINORS", has been withdrawn, and will be known as PICTORIAL PENDING. It will be replaced with a new issue, details of which will be sent to you within the next few days." It is assumed that issue 401 consisting of six items is the replacement issue.
