UCTV provides documentaries, faculty lectures and performances from the ten UC campuses: UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC Los Angeles, UC Merced, UC Riverside, UC San Diego, UC San Francisco, UC Santa Barbara, and UC Santa Cruz. The material is also available on TV on satellite and cable in California. Its archive of video material can be viewed with RealPlayer and is organised under a series of categories (Agriculture, Arts & Music, Health & Medicine, Humanities, Public Affairs and Science). The programmes last from 30 to 90 minutes and the quality of the encoding is unusually high. One can also view UCTV live. The site uses rather too small a font but is otherwise a model of its kind and is highly recommended. Users can now subscribe to audio and video podcasts.

Between 1994 and 1999, the Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation—now the USC Shoah Foundation Institute—interviewed nearly 52,000 survivors and other witnesses of the Holocaust. The Institute interviewed Jewish survivors, homosexual survivors, Jehovah’s Witness survivors, liberators and liberation witnesses, political prisoners, rescuers and aid providers, Roma and Sinti (Gypsy) survivors, survivors of Eugenics policies, and war crimes trials participants. Members of the public can use the online Testimony Catalogue to view biographical information for all interviewees in the archive. This provides data only, with no video. Institutions can apply for access to the entire Visual History Archive or to acquire testimony copies.

LUX focuses on visual arts-based moving image work, a definition which includes experimental film, video art, installation art, performance art, personal documentary, essay films and animation. The organisation’s main activities are distribution, exhibition, publishing, commissioning, research, and professional development support, and the newly designed website neatly reflects all these activities. Of particular note is the easily searchable collection of 4500 films and videos by approximately 1500 artists, which evolved from the holdings of the now-defunct London Filmmakers Co-operative, London Video Arts and The Lux Centre. These works are available for hire or sale (via the online shop), some may be viewed online in their entirety (Video section) and some are included in online themed exhibitions (listed in the ‘What’s On’ section which also includes detailed information on LUX projects and events, and a calendar listing of upcoming events across London involving artists’ moving image). The site also features a blog and downloadable podcasts and vodcasts of interviews with artists, documentation of LUX events and specially commissioned content.
