This new resource is dedicated to digitising and providing access to the many films sponsored by the British Council from the 1930s up to the 1960s. At present fifteen films from the 1940s have been digitised and are now available for free online viewing. These documentaries reflect the work of great directors such as Mary Field (Development of the English Town), Philip Leacock/Paul Rotha (Island People) and Ken Annakin (London 1942), as well as an apprenticeship for future ones such as John Krish (editor of Election 1945). The films are designed to promote an exploration of the British Council archive as well as debate and discussion on, for example, the role of these films in the development of a British brand for overseas consumption and how this might have changed over the years. The site also features a wiki listing of all known British Council films by date, beginning with 1933, with the space for discussion.

The BIRTH Television Archive is one of the major results an EU-funded project within the MEDIA+ programme. It is an extremely rich multimedia, multilingual webportal giving access to audiovisual and textual material (programme schedules, articles etc) on the early days of European Television. The archive was built up by five major European television archives - the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), Österreichischer Rundfunk (ORF), Nederlandse Instituut voor Beeld and Geluid, Radio Télévision Belgique Française (RTBF) and Südwestrundfunk (SWR). There are three different access layers to the resource: the general public, the academic community and television professionals, each available through free subscription. Everyone who visits BIRTH can access the low-resolution programme clips, photos, programme guides, articles, the timeline, the Knowledge Based Articles and the European Studies Network. The academic community has special access to the European Television Studies Network. This is a searchable database consisting of institutes and academics who are involved with the history of European television. The participating academics and institutes are able to upload and maintain their own listing so that it always remains up to date. For television professionals the BIRTH portal functions as a platform for the exchange and selling of high-resolution archive material, done on a bilateral basis between the two parties.
