Within CERIMES (Multimedia Resources and Information Centre for Higher Education) is the SFRS (Scientific Research Film Service), which is part of the Ministry of Education in France and specialises in providing films for use in Higher Education. Over a 260 films are streamed free online using Flash, and over 2,000 more are available for sale on DVD (Zone 2 PAL) or CD-ROM as well as being available for Mpeg4 download. Most of their material is only available in French, though there are a few exceptions. Also included is an online catalogue of close to 2,000 audio visual and multimedia resources which can be searched by title, personality, year, subject and format.

Site dedicated to ethics and the study of ethics, particularly providing updates on current literature through Internet links to both texts and video resources. Its impressive section of videos provides an extensive range of videos (using Real) of public fora, interviews, conferences and round-table discussions on such themes as the Human Genome Project, ethics in medicine, business, computing and religion, ethical theory, and a public forum event from the University of San Diego on terrorist violence given the day after the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001. This site is no longer active, but the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine offers a capture of the website as it appeared on 22/05/2009. This does not include access to the moving images.

The DNA Files is an American radio series on the ‘genetic revolution’, broadcast on National Public Radio stations. The documentaries and features explore not only the science of genetics, but its ethical, social and legal implications. The site features programme summaries, PDF files of transcripts, and audio excerpts (using Real) from the programmes. There are web links to resources, and some entertaining ‘ethical scenarios’ to explore.

The HHMI is a nonprofit medical research organisation, whose activities include promoting science education at all levels. The ‘Biointeractive’ section of the website includes interactive virtual laboratories, as well as video clips and animations organised under the headings stem cells, evolution, obesity, cancer, neuroscience genomics & chemical genetics, sex determination, biological clocks, infectious diseases, cardiovascular, immunology, DNA, and RNA. There is also a webcast archive of the ‘Holiday Lectures on Science’ programme and the lectures can be viewed (using Real Player) either with or without synchronised slides.

The Human Genome Project (HGP) was an international research effort to sequence and map all of the genes - together known as the genome - of members of our species, Homo sapiens. It was completed in April 2003. This site offers access to a wealth of information on the history of the HGP, its progress, cast of characters and future, including An Interactive Timeline of the Human Genome. The original site of the project, Human Genome Project Information Archive (1990-2003) , can be accessed for historical purposes.
