The Human Genome Project (HGP) was an international research effort to sequence and map all of the genes - together known as the genome - of members of our species, Homo sapiens. It was completed in April 2003. This site offers access to a wealth of information on the history of the HGP, its progress, cast of characters and future, including An Interactive Timeline of the Human Genome. The original site of the project, Human Genome Project Information Archive (1990-2003) , can be accessed for historical purposes.
