- Summary
- COI synopsis: The birth of a healthy child is somewhat akin to a miracle - so many things could go wrong. This programme looks at the resources offered by the British health service to care for a mother and her unborn child, and shows how the service can help when something does go wrong. One in every thousand people is born deaf, yet on average, deafness is rarely diagnosed before the age of three. Most could be taught to speak and lip-read if we knew they were deaf early enough. Now, a new electronic deafness detector has been perfected that can test even day-old babies.
