NoS Summary - Processes involved in making bricks.
British Pathe synopsis: "Filmed at Fletton". "Just the kind of clay your gardening friend detests is the sort they like here" L/S of a clay quarry with machinery in action. C/U of piece of machinery which appears to be cutting through the clay. "This "Shale Planer" cuts out 4,000 tons of clay a week." High angle shot of the machinery. Then trolleys automatically transport the clay to the brickyards. M/S of trolleys moving along tracks. Various shots of the trolleys being moved and tipped. "And after grinding and squeezing, the "green-bricks" exit from the pressing machines." M/S interior as man works a pressing machine. C/U of a young boy taking bricks from the machine. "Mighty rows of kilns are waiting." L/S of two piles of bricks being transported on an electric trolley. "So off the "green-bricks" go to be fired. (These kilns hold nearly 2 million bricks). M/S of man pushing a wheeled trolley laden with bricks. As the trolley picks up speed he jumps on the back. M/S of men loading bricks into the kiln. "After firing - more hard work - " M/S of man stacking the bricks in the kiln, dissolve to show the kiln bricked up. "A little load (about 350,000 bricks!)" M/S of man with a small barrow wheeling some bricks out of the kiln. L/S of the men at work as they move bricks and stack them.
