Summary
NoS Summary - Chicks packed in boxes for transport & ducks swim in a pond.
British Pathe synopsis: Subtitle of the story is: "Showing how Ducks and Chickens spend their spare time." Introductory intertitle reads: "The hen’s offspring is a plaything of fate. If it isn’t eaten before it’s hatched it’s eaten later. Here’s a brood that missed the first unhappy ending." L/S of a farm with lots of chicken coops. Small chicks are let out of a box by a man in the foreground of the shot. Dissolve into shot of lots of chicks running around. "Their less fortunate sisters are sacrificed for your breakfast." M/S of woman throwing out food for a brood of chickens. Other women hold baskets of eggs. M/S of women packing live chicks into boxes. One woman kisses the chicks before she puts them in the box. C/U of the chicks inside straw lined boxes. Cloth is placed over the chicks then the lid is placed on. Words on the box lid read: "Live Chicks - With Great Care" Intertitle reads: "You simply cannot keep ducks out of water!" M/S of large flock of ducks running across farmland. A woman throws out feed for them. Other girls follow. The ducks run down to a pond. Grain is thrown into the water and the ducks waddle in. M/S in circular frame of the ducks swimming in the pond with the girls following them in and wading around in the water. C/U of the ducks.
