British Pathe synopsis: "Smiles make a great difference in faces. Take this Fiji Island Beauty - " A Fijian woman poses behind a bush. She smiles and laughs and looks coy. C/U of her as she speaks to camera (no sound). "...or this newly wedded couple." An extremely young looking couple smile for the camera (they look to be mid teens). They smile and laugh. "More pleasant than this scowl, isn’t it?" C/U of a young girl holding a basket on her head with a shawl wrapped around her. She looks at the camera but doesn’t smile. "A baby’s face is always entrancing, whether black, yellow or white. Here’s one from Borneo." C/U of baby’s face. Various babies are seen. "Manchurian kiddies." C/U of baby in ornate head dress. C/U of a young boy in traditional dress. He looks at the camera - very wary. C/U of four children - two smile, two scowl. They all wave at the end of the shot. "One of our own." C/U of a baby wearing very large spectacles! "Having called this subject "Smiles", we must finish with some. So we’ll go to the West Indies for them." C/U of a young woman and smiling then a man who rolls a coconut in his hands and smokes, laughing and showing his bad teeth.
