Summary
NoS Summary - How ostrich feathers are collected and sold in South Africa.
British Pathe synopsis: South Africa. M/S of baby ostriches hatching from eggs. A man picks up an un-hatched egg. M/S of large group of ostriches running towards the camera along a country path. M/S of cowboys rounding up herd of ostrich. Various shots of ostriches on the farm. "To get Eve’s feathers, though, you must first catch the grower -" Man grabs ostrich by the head. Two men wrestle with the beast. M/S of men plucking feathers off a live ostrich which has a bag tied over its head. The bag is taken off and the bird released. Black workers gather up the feathers. The men seem to be cutting large parts of the ostrich’s wings off. "And here’s a queer place - the feather market of Port Elizabeth - the chief departure point for ostrich feathers leaving home". Various shots of the interior of the feather market. Men look at piles of feathers. "The only things given a weigh here -" M/S of feathers being weighed.
