Summary
NoS Summary - young girls learning how to bath, dress and hold a baby.
British Pathe synopsis: Lawn Lane London County Council Girls’ School. "The children of today are the citizens of tomorrow, and mothercraft classes in the schools help to ensure a healthy new generation." C/U of a young girl lifting a baby from a cot. The girl sits down on a chair and puts the baby on her knee - it is a doll in fact. She begins to undress the baby. M/S of a group of young girls (probably between 9 and 14 years old) "Undressing and turning "baby" correctly is an art in itself." M/S of girl carefully turning the doll over then undressing it. "A preliminary soaping before the bath..." M/S of the girl pretending to soap the baby’s head. She then lifts it into a tin bucket (catching its foot on the edge in the process) "...and care in holding "Baby" in the bath." Low angle shot of the girl bathing the baby, she looks very earnest. She squeezes water from a sponge above the baby’s head. M/S of a group of the girls taking notes. Girl lifts the baby out of the bath. "Dry thoroughly and do not forget the importance of supporting the back and head." More shots of the girl tending to baby and of the other girls taking notes. She dries the baby’s back. She then puts a nappy on the baby. Teacher comes over and shows her how to support the head correctly. Another girl prepares the cot and the baby is laid in. "A very young little mother." A very small child (about 2 or 3 years old) is handed the baby. She holds it. C/U of her holding the baby.
