NoS synopsis: ‘Sir John Martin-Harvey now appearing in "The Only Way"' intertitle with a cartoon of a man standing before a gallows with a crowd underneath. ‘This play was first produced in 1899 at the Lyceum Theatre, London, with Martin-Harvey in the character of Sydney Carton, which part he has now played several thousand times in all parts of the world -'. Close up of Martin-Harvey dressed in a three piece suit in front of a black curtain. He turns his head slowly then looks right and smiles. ‘Two of his well-known character studies - Sydney Carton in "THE ONLY WAY"; and "THE BURGOMASTER OF STILEMONDE".' Martin-Harvey sits draped in a chair wearing 17th century dress. He pours a liquid from a bottle into a glass on the table amidst scattered papers. He drinks then takes up a quill and writes. Dissolve to the same chair and table, but now the actor is in modern dress with a hat and beard. He looks closely at a basket of fruit. He takes a bunch of grapes, stands and then takes another.
