Summary
Summary - Gregory Brown, poster artist, working on a new design.
NoS synopsis: Lead title: Cartoon of a bus with the words ‘Around the Town’ on
it, and posters for the series where adverts would normally be. Footage of a street moves in the background. Men cross the street and a car pulls up alongside the ‘bus’.
'At Home with Gregory Brown, the famous poster artist who has done so much for ‘The poor man’s picture gallery" - He is one of the pioneers of the poster revival -' Footnote ‘Around the Town’ (this follows on all intertitles) Cartoon in background depicts a dog, woman and man admiring posters covering a wall. ‘At work in his garden’. Brown stands with a palette in his hand, painting at an easel. Behind him, branches overhang. He is dressed casually in a pale shirt and pullover. He looks into the distance at his subject and paints. We can see the painting on the easel which appears to be of a landscape with trees. He mixes paints on the palette. Close up as Brown continues to paint, and looks at the camera repeatedly. He also speaks to the cameraman (silent). ‘Some of his recent posters’. The poster "Dorking by motor bus" is shown, propped up against a wall in a house. There are a pot plant and a chair alongside it. The poster "Reigate by motor-bus" is seen in the same position. The poster "Hadley Woods Route 29A" is seen as well. (All of these posters depict landscapes with trees, like the painting Brown was doing earlier).
