Summary
BFI synopsis: Robert MacKenzie interviews Selwyn Lloyd, Britain’s new Foreign Secretary, on the defence aspect of Britain’s foreign policy. They discuss Britain’s motivation in making atomic weapons and how Britain’s military commitments throughout the world can act as part of it’s defence strategy. Lloyd stresses that the essence of Britain’s defence mechanisms especially nuclear weapons, is that of a deterent. They go on to discuss National Service, the co-ordination between the three branches of the armed forces, Britain’s co-operation with various European bodies and the Anglo-American alliance, especially concerning American troops based in Britain.
