- Summary
- COI synopsis: St David’s is a small Welsh coastal village where life is dominated by the lifeboat, a sturdy craft manned by volunteers who launch their boat in the worst weathers when all other craft are seeking shelter. The lifeboat men of Britain have rescued more than eight thousand lives from the sea since their voluntary serivce was started in 1824. Joan and Julius Evans from California, USA, meet many of the crew of the St David’s boat - farmers, shopkeepers, fishermen, etc. - and conclude their visit with a better understanding of why the British are ‘born to boats’ and how the miracle of Dunkirk was possible.
