- Summary
- COI synopsis: Aluminium leaves the earth as bauxite. At an aluminium factory in Scotland, the bauxite is fed into huge furnaces where the aluminium oxide is separated. Then ingots emerge from the flames and these are melted down for a second time. By now all the impurities have been driven out by the heat, and the other metals may be added to make the aluminium stronger. Although lightweight, this metal, a British invention, is tough and reliable and used by builders of skyscrapers, ships and aircraft.
