MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Launch of HMS ‘Southampton’. DESCRIPTION: The Sheffield Class Destroyer, HMS Southampton could not slide down the slipway at her launching ceremony due to industrial action. However, the ship was duly named by Lady Cameron and champagne broken on her bow. SHOTLIST: GV exterior building where ship is in dry dock. CU Sign ‘HMS Southampton’. MS people enter building. MS tilt up from empty dais to ship. MS tilt up from side of ship to Royal Marines Band. CU sign Type 42 Destroyer - 4247. MS visitors on dais. CU Lady Cameron. MLS same pulls lever for champagne to hit bow. MCU crowd applauds. LS crowd cheering. CU broken bottle.
