- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Selsey Birdmen. DESCRIPTION: They were trying hard again, at Selsey Bill, to win £3,000 in the Birdmen Competition. Birdmen with varying kinds of wings tried to glide 50 metres out to sea to win the prize. David Cook of Suffolk nearly made it but for the rest it was just a big splash. SHOTLIST: GV people at Selsey Beaches. GV birdman and craft being taken to end of lifeboat jetty. SV craft approaching launch pad. GV people in boats on sea watching. CU pan birdman launching himself pan as he hits sea. CU another birdman and helpers preparing craft for launch. GV zoom in as craft just falls off edge straight into the sea. TV craft in sea as speed boat comes to the rescue. CU birdman putting on helmet. SV people on beach sunning themselves. SV pan birdman launches himself and hits sea (gliding down gently). SV another launching hits sea. LV ditto hits sea. SV launch & failure. FV ditto hits sea directly below launch pad. SV ditto hits sea. LV man leaps off with craft but fails. SV determined run by man but hits sea. SV man with craft launch and hits sea seconds after. LV man & craft pitches himself straight into sea. SV giant £1 note held by birdwoman on jetty waiting for launch. SV boats on water watching. SV £1 note and birdwoman launch and hit sea. GV crowd. SV £1 note floating on water as birdwoman is rescued. SV man launches himself in hang glider. LV man attempts to get lift in glider but slowly hits the sea. SV David Cook and helpers preparing craft for launch. GV David Cook & 3 helpers who fall in sea, push craft into the air, pan as it flies toward winning line, tail hits water but craft crosses line. CU launch of his craft again pan to BV of flight.
