MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Swan Upping. DESCRIPTION: For 498 years, this ceremony of marking the swans on the River Thames has been carried on. The swans marked according to the previous marks on the beaks of the parents. Swan Upping is carried out by watermen on behalf of the Monarchy, The Worshipful Company of Dyers and the Worshipful Company of Vintners. SHOTLIST: GV Dyers and Vintners boats up river, Swan Upping in July 1935. CU pennant on boat GR V. CU pennant Vintners Royalty. CU swan swimming fast up river.
