MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Penny Farthing. DESCRIPTION: Penny Farthings are back! but only as a child’s bike and then only for export. Made in Mitcham, Surrey, so far 30,000 bikes have been produced. Film from our archives traces the history of the Penny Farthing. SHOTLIST: LS start of Penny Farthing race, man falls off. MS pan man gets up and continues race. MLS kids on new Penny Farthing. MS pull back ditto. MS pan round & BV man in bowler hat riding old Penny Farthing along street. MLS pan kids riding new Penny Farthing. MS man wheeling old bike up to start of Penny Farthing race. MS other competitors being propped up on starting line. MS pan start of race. LS women riding bikes (not Penny Farthing) in formation. MS start of old Penny Farthing race (gun fired) action is reversed and they go back to starting line. MLS women riding in formation. MS pan old Penny Farthing race in progress. MS towards ditto.
