Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Possum Helps the Paralysed. DESCRIPTION: At the Spinal Injuries Centre Stoke Mandeville, they’ve devised Possum: a system for people paralysed (except for the neck and head). The principle is best illustrated by a mercury U tube. By means of air pressure, the liquid is forced up - contact is made - the light goes on. Release the pressure - the liquid falls breaking the contact. By regulation, through gentle pressure or suction patients can operate through a relay, several different devices. Many things are possible with this system - even fast typing. SHOTLIST: Key scene. MS 2 patients wheeled into ward. CU sign Spinal Injuries Centre. GV ward. CU patient blows whistle.
