Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Art Find By X-Ray. DESCRIPTION: X-Rays show that underneath the painting of Henry VIII and the Barber Surgeons, by the German artist, Hans Holbein the Younger, are the original sketches by the master. The painting is one of two on the same theme. One is owned by the Worshipful Company of Barber-Surgeons and the other by the Royal College of Surgeons. The discovery was made by a member of the College, who took 84 pictures with ordinary dental X-Ray apparatus. News of another art controversy comes from the South of France, where a dealer claims that Leonardo’s Mona Lisa, currently on show in Washington, is a fake. SHOTLIST: Key scene. GV gallery.
