- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Speedway Finals. DESCRIPTION: The World Speedway Championship took place at Wembley Stadium, watched by 70,000 fans, and 16 finalists from 5 countries competed individually over 20 heats for the world title. Spectators were kept in doubt until heat 19, when the issue was finally clinched. Manchester’s Peter Craven became the first Englishman to win the world crown since 1955. And he won it then, too.
