- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Then and Now. DESCRIPTION: Desolate terraces and balustrades are all that remain of the Crystal Palace, that Victorian landmark, designed for the 1851 Exhibition by Sir Joseph Paxton. But now, restoration of Crystal Palace as a sports and recreation centre takes a new step forward with the construction of a water garden. Now, we recall the Palace as it stood in the 1930’s.
