MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Australia’s Challenger. DESCRIPTION: Our pictures show Gretel, Australia’s challenger for the America’s Cup. (This year’s race will be held off Newport, Rhode Island, in September). The traditional fizz ceremony was performed by Dame Pattie Menzies. Then, Australia’s Governor-General, Lord de L’Isle, presented a ship’s bell. When the formalities were over, sail was hoisted and for the first time in public, Gretel, weighing 29 tons with a hull some 70 feet long, was put through her paces. SHOTLIST: Key scene.
